Self Assurance Is A Position That Can Be Yours
Self-confidence is defined as the power to have faith in oneself and one's gifts. This attribute is critical to a person's successes throughout one's lifetime. This strength enables people to understand that they are worthwhile and that they are able to succeed in their actions. Even individuals who do not possess this strength can learn how to increase their self confidence.
Without this characteristic, many people are powerless to achieve life goals. They frequently are unsuccessful in interpersonal interactions, educational attempts, and employment settings. They may acquire a social phobia, and tend to be ill at ease in social settings. People who do not possess self-confidence may be reluctant to work to aspire or work toward goal achievement; these individuals are convinced that they are about to disappoint. They become sure that they are inferior to or less successful than other individuals around them. They typically do fall short because they do not trust themselves.
On the other hand, the individual capable of gaining self confidence will find himself or herself equipped to correct this painful trend and be able to find healing from this social phobia. Such a person then learns that increasing self confidence causes remarkable improvements in relationships and academic achievements. At times, an employment prospect might even result from steps toward boosting self-confidence.
People might not build self-confidence for several reasons. Perhaps they had overbearing parents, or been teased often in school. Many struggled academically or socially. Others just were not outgoing enough to make friends or encounter the positive encouragement of peers, parents, or teachers. Many of these people struggle with a self-image of inferiority and incompetence.
Many times, those who were not able to build self confidence during childhood find themselves with significant difficulties in building self confidence in adulthood. They have been unable to learn how to achieve this, and usually learn only when they seek the aid and support of peers or professional counselors. Many people do not want to admit these difficulties in their lives, and merely continue to strain all their lives.
Many techniques have been used to encourage people to gain self confidence. Many types of counseling strategies, including cognitive therapy or group therapy, can be used to instruct people how to build self confidence. Endless numbers of self-help manuals have been published to coach individuals to improve self-confidence. Therapists even provide seminars and retreats structured to assist others improve self confidence.
Although all of these strategies can be effective, two innovative methods that can be quickly learned and quite successful for a majority of people who try them are confidence hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP. Experts who utilize confidence hypnosis are often able to coach people to acquire self-confidence and radically improve both their outlooks and their abilities to achieve in life.
Classic hypnosis (employing post-hypnotic suggestions) can be very useful. This approach is most helpful with individuals who are suggestible and easily directed. This technique frequently is not effective for people who tend to be methodical or think critically.
Those who fit the latter category, Ericksonian hypnosis or NLP techniques are much more successful. These strategies are superb for effectively relating to the unconscious mind, which is the seat of our emotions. This occurs because they bypass the resistance that analytical people have to the more traditional suggestion type of hypnosis.
A tool offered through that people are frequently taught to boost self-confidence is called anchoring. This is a natural experience. For instance, if you hear a song from the past, and experience feelings of deja vu, it's because the subconscious related the emotions in a past situation, with the music that you were listening to during that time. So hearing the song again, the unconscious triggers the feelings connected with it. In effect, the song anchors those sensations.
Using the technique known as anchoring, people are coached to recall an instance that allowed them to experience the feelings of confidence. As they remember and re-experience those feelings, they are taught to touch two fingers together. The unconscious then associates the feelings of self-confidence with this physical action. If the patient contends that he or she has no memory of an emotion of self-confidence, the person is encouraged to construct a fantasy in which he or she does see himself exhibiting confidence, and then anchor that instance of confidence.
Once they've anchored the emotions of confidence, when they find themselves in situations that require self-confidence, anchoring triggers memories of confidence for use in the present situation.
Another very powerful NLP technique called the "Flash" can be used to instantaneously exchange painful feelings, which are frequently connected with a lack of self-confidence. With the Flash, the mind uses the visual images that cause a negative feeling, to trigger mental pictures to generate a constructive response.
For example, the client programs the unconscious to use the visual cues that cause emotions of insecurity, as triggers for visual cues that will trigger feelings of self confidence. Mental pictures trigger emotional reactions.
We all have dreams, and aspirations. A number of people learn to work toward these to accomplish their desires. Some, however let their low self-confidence to overwhelm them. Although it is true that NLP may not work for every person, the overwhelming majority of persons who try this strategy tell of significant success in boosting self confidence. This strategy is typically much more successful than other approaches for the majority of people.
Summary: People who lack self-confidence usually may struggle with failure in many areas of their lives. Many elements cause people to experience social phobias or issues with incompetence. A number of treatment approaches have been developed to aid individuals to boost self-confidence. NLP is widely reported to be very successful by the majority of individuals who have tried this strategy.
