Tips To Improve Search Engine Ranking

by Lee Dobbins

Having your web pages ranked by search engines is vital to getting traffic to your website. The following are commonly regarded as the principal factors needed to improve search engine ranking: search engine optimization, good back links, and unique content. Whether your subject matter is popular or more specialized, you need to pay attention to these things.

So, what are the main aspects you need to be focusing on?

The most important thing on your page is the keywords you are targeting. Are there any particular phrases that sum up the ideas on the page you have in mind? Research your keywords with care to find a targeted phrase that contains little competition. Carefully select the word or phrase you want to rank for every page because this is of major importance.

There are two major parts of getting a good ranking - on page factors and off page factors. What you actually put on the page is an "on page factor." This includes, meta tags, alt tags, titles and the content itself. Value-added content makes your site more appealing to the people who go there and will also help to build visitor trust which will eventually translate to more sales.

You can improve search engine ranking if you include your keyword phrase a couple of times on the page - the beginning, the middle and the end as well as in the title and in the description and keyword meta tags. It's not necessary to overdo it, having the phrase around three times in you article will be fine. Also, make sure your keyword phrase is included in the file name.

When it comes to increased ranking, on page factors are important, but it's the off page factors that really count. This means the links that point back to your page. Links to your page should include the keyword phrase in the anchor text as often as possible. That being said, you don't want all the inbound links to have your keyword in the anchor text, so you should use different variations as well. Although it is best to get high quality links to content that is closely related to your subject matter, links from pages that have a broad, general appeal can be very useful.

If you'd like to draw more traffic to your web page, and improve search engine ranking, then getting more links is the way to go. The inbound links are what will get your site in front of visitors and the content on your page is what will keep them coming back. Most of the time you can reach the first page of search engine results by having more links than those sites you are competing with. Of course, this assumes that all other factors are equal.
