Years ago, I read "The Richest Man in Babylon." It shares many great "Babylonian parables" about wealth. It's a short book you could probably read in an hour or two and if you haven't read it yet, you should. It's full of proven wealth creation principles but there's one in particular that resonated with me and that I always remember. It's on the bottom of page 56 and it says:

"Men of action are favored by the Goddess of Good Luck."

I'm not sexist so I figure this Goddess favors women of action too. And besides it's the Goddess of Good Luck, not the God of Good Luck but those are the exact words.

Contrary to what all the whiners of the world think, successful people don't become successful purely on luck. They got off their butts and took action...and the Goddess of Good Luck favors people who take action. It's not just a Babylonian parable. It's a fact.

There's an old saying that luck is when opportunity meets preparation. And everyone is surrounded by such an abundance of opportunity, it wouldn't be possible to take advantage of it all. Unfortunately, those that don't prepare themselves to meet opportunity don't recognize any of the opportunities available to them and it's unlikely they'll ever get "lucky." Losers prefer to hang out together. Apparently they take solace in hearing each others sob stories.

Apparently it never occurs to these boneheads that they could ask successful people how they did it or go to the local public library and read books about successful people and then model the actions of these successful people to achieve the same results themselves.

Woody Allen said half of success is just showing up and he's probably right. In a previous article (When They Were 22) I shared the story of how a carpenter named Harrison Ford got his "lucky" break and turned into a mega- successful actor. He was actually hanging out in places where actors get hired. He wasn't sitting on the sofa in front of the idiot box dreaming about becoming an actor. He is a man of action, the type favored by the Goddess of Good Luck. And surprise, since he just showed up at a place where actors are hired, he got "lucky" and found an acting gig as an extra. A short time later he was cast as Han Solo in Star Wars and it turned out that was just the beginning. And it all started with a simple action.
