How To Improve Your Capability To Study And Overcome Test Anxiety

by Alan B. Densky, CH

Are you a student who is trying to improve your grades, there are a number of shortcuts that can help you to boost your facility to focus your attention, retain the data that you study, and bring it back to consciousness during an examination without being subjected to mental blocks or test anxiety. These are the basics of how to institute good study habits:

(1) Create an environment for study and only study in that place! Establish a peaceful location that will make possible a focusing of attention without any distractions. Some potential examples would be a library, a vacant classroom, or your office. You want to create the habit of studying when you are in this place. So it's best to not use your special place for other activities like daydreaming, watching TV, or eating, etc.

BE SURE YOUR SPECIAL PLACE HAS:

(a) A comfy chair, but not excessively comfortable

(b) Your writing desk or table

(c) Good lighting

(d) Proper air flow

BE SURE YOUR SPECIAL PLACE DOESN'T HAVE:

(a) Views that will be distracting

(b) A telephone

(c) Distracting music

(d) A large screen TV

(e) A companion who talks a lot

(f) A refrigerator filled with sweets

(2) Break up your work into tiny, short-range components.

(a) Set up small specific goals like, "I am going to study my math from 2 PM to 3 PM. Otherwise you will set yourself up to fall short.

(b) Set a doable homework goal for the period of time you have set aside. For example: finish reading chapter eight in my history book, or complete a rough draft of my math paper, etc. Set your goal when you you are ready to study but before you actually begin to study. Set reasonable goals. You might do more than reach your goal, but set a reasonable goal even if it seems way too easy.

(3) Test Phobias

(a) Some students mostly experience physical symptoms, like nausea, feeling hot or cold, headaches, or faintness, etc.

(b) Other students experience emotional symptoms for the most part, like feeling irritable, crying, or getting frustrated quickly.

(c) The main dilemma with anxiousness is that it can trigger you to have a memory block. Or it could make you have thoughts that are racing out of control.

(d) Although you may currently experience some level of anxiousness when taking exams, you can learn to diminish that anxiety, or even completely eliminate it!

(e) Anxiousness and the resultant stress are generally the main causes of a lack of the ability to focus your concentration. Stress can also be the cause of a mental block when one tries to recollect information.

(f) Hypnosis CD's can be utilized to relax your mind and focus your concentration. As your mind calms down, your ability to stay focused will increase. Similarly, a calm mind enhances your ability to retain information, and recall it when it is needed.

(g) Hypnotherapy CD's can be utilized to program your mind for the positive expectation of relaxation and the ability to recall information during an examination. This is valuable for diminishing or eliminating test anxiety. There are a number of hypnotherapy techniques that can promptly get rid of a test phobia!
