*Be prepared! Don't try to wing it. Even if you're quick-witted (of course you are!), even the most glib person's mind can go completely blank without warning.

*Humor is good, but don't forget to be serious. Sure those are conflicting elements, but it's important to remember. Without a little humor, you risk boring the guests.

You can be sure that the two of them take their marriage very seriously, and they want to know that you honor that. *Keep it brief. Don't go rambling on, please. If you can, try to practice in front of at least one other person. Watch their eyes. If the eyes start glazing over, it's time to find something to cut out from your speech.

*Go easy on the anecdotes. Steer clear of stories about your friend's old girlfriends, and don't go telling the guests about embarrassing moments that could make your friend's new wife want to clobber you. You want your buddy's wife to like you at least a little, or you won't be seeing him much after the wedding!
