Wipeout Social Phobias And Build Self-Confidence With Self-Hypnosis

by Alan B. Densky, CH

Many people feel some discomfort or experience a minor sense of anxiousness when thrust into a new situation or a group of unfamiliar people. Unfortunately, for roughly ten percent of Americans, social anxiety can become so severe as to be disabling. Experts now believe that a much larger number of people may have to deal with milder types of social anxiety that can lead to significant issues in everyday interactions.

The term for this kind of anxiety is "social phobia". It often happens when one has fears or worries that often are caused by being in a social situation. A person who has a social phobia might also have trouble with stopping themselves from thinking too much about how others are passing judgment on or evaluating him or her.

For people who suffer from social phobia, feelings of anxiety can happen in all sorts of different types of situations, including shopping, parties, public speaking, standing in front of an audience, or being interviewed. These socially related anxieties can also be manifested in the body; for many people with social anxieties, sweating, flushing, trembling, or stomach issues can happen when dealing with these types of high stress situations.

Scientists now argue that social phobia involves issues with self-confidence. Self confidence is our ability to feel that we are capable of making the right decisions, be independent, and have control over our lives. Those who lack self-confidence -- a very common issue in today's modern world -- might worry too much about how they are perceived by others, which may eventually lead to not wanting to take part in social activities or of having a sense of feeling a loss of control.

Fortunately, though, there are some simple actions someone with self-confidence issues can take to regain this control. One possible action someone who struggles with self-confidence issues can take is to use an anxiety and phobia workbook. You can think of the anxiety and phobia workbook as merely a method to gain insight into the issues you are having trouble with by maintaining a record of triggers and symptoms; there are also activities to do that will help you acquire more insightful introspection about your self-confidence issues.

When you have gotten to the point at which you have started to have some insight about your issues with self-confidence, and have decided that it is now time to begin developing self-confidence, then it makes sense to investigate a type of therapy that has been shown to be very successful in social phobia. As with the anxiety and phobia workbook, this special type of therapy is defined by centering on assisting you to become pro-active and gain control over your life. What this means is that you will be curing your own problems.

This form of treatment, called hypnosis, works by harnessing the secret power of your subconscious mind to help you become more confident, self-assured, calm, and comfortable with yourself. You may have a hard time believing that we are all born with these capabilities, but due to traumatic life events, learned helplessness, and problematic social interactions, it is often the case that we lose sight of our native abilities to seize these powers. Hypnosis therapy is clinically proven to be successful for people who have self-confidence and anxiety issues.

Many people who suffer from self-confidence and other anxiety-related issues often seek out a quick fix solution, such as pills, natural products, and short courses of traditional therapy. Although these are strategies that can be helpful for some people, they don't really address the root of our self-confidence issues - our subconscious mind. If you want to deal with self-confidence issues, you have to be in control of your own recovery.

If you do decide to check out hypnosis therapy to help you gain self-confidence, you will undertake a course of treatments with a hypnotherapist who will encourage you to deeply relax. Within this deep state of calmness, your subconscious mind is open and ready to be reached by suggestive techniques. Your hypnotherapist will then work with you while you are in this open mental state by using repetitive suggestion to aid you to realize that you are an able, strong, and independent person.

Other possibilities for people who are dealing with self-confidence are to receive hypnosis therapy through video or audio recordings, which can be watched or listened to in the comfortable space of your own house. Many people also discover that learning self-hypnosis, a specific relaxation method in which you are encouraged to become open to your deepest wants and needs, with only a small amount of guidance, can be very helpful. Whatever form of anxiety hypnotherapy you select, you can be sure that you are undertaking a critical step in creating your own healing and recovery.

Alan B. Densky, CH has created several hypnotherapeutic techniques for the treatment of social phobias. His website offers a thorough self hypnosis article library devoted to every aspect of hypnosis and NLP. Visit for Free hypnosis videos, downloads, and newsletters.
